Description

This article provides a high level set of instructions for adding new SQL servers for an existing Archer environment. However, the rest of the environment is to remain on the original servers.
Additionally, clients are expected to use the Installation Guide corresponding to the current Archer version.

Resolution

Export the X.509 certificate from the Archer Web server:

1. Log into an Archer Web server.
2. Open the web.config file in a notepad.
3. Identify the defaultCertificate name then close the web.config file.0EMVM000004mTyI.png0EMVM000004mTyI.png
4. Open the Certificate store and export that certificate with a private key.
5. This will be used on all servers so place a copy on all Archer servers or a share accessible to all servers.

Prepare the Archer environment:

1. Open the Archer Control Panel.
2. Open the Job Engine Manager plugin.
3. Select the Servers tab and select Discontinue Job Processing for all job servers.
4. Wait for all jobs to complete.
5. Exit the Archer Control Panel.
6. Stop all Archer Services on all Archer servers, including the Archer Configuration Service.
7. Stop IIS on all Archer Web servers using the below command:

IISRESET/stop

SQL Server preparation:

1. Back up both the Configuration and Instance databases from the original SQL Server.
2. Restore both databases to the new SQL Server.
Note: The restored databases maintain their original Database Compatibility level. Ensure to change the Compatibility level prior to installing the newer version of Archer.
3. Set up the SQL server according to the Installation Guide for the current version of Archer: Preparing the Database Servers.

Limited Archer Installation:

1. A limited Archer installation of the current version of Archer must be run on all Archer servers.
2. In the Installation Options window of the installer, choose the following options:

  • On servers that run Advanced Workflow, choose both Services and Advanced Workflow components.
  • On servers that run Services, choose only the Services component.0EMVM000004mLMT.png0EMVM000004mLMT.png

5. In the Configuration Database Options and Instance Database Options windows, point to the new SQL server and set the options according to your required settings (integrated security, login name, etc.).
6. Complete the rest of the installation and run the installer. For more specific details (if needed), see Planning and Installation in Archer Help of the current Archer version.
