Description

If a Notification is configured to deliver to an invalid email address, the Notification delivery would fail. However, it is noticed that the Notification failure is not found in the Notifications Failed Email Attempts report.
This article provides a clarification about the content of the Notifications Failed Email Attempts report and how Notification failures are recorded and tracked.

Resolution

The confusion stems from the definition of a Failed Email Attempt. The following two Archer Notification Reports do not provide any information about whether or not a Notification email was successfully delivered:

  • Notifications Sent
  • Notifications Failed Email Attempts

Instead, the reports indicate whether Archer was able to connect with the Mail Server listed in the Archer Control Panel and forward the email to it, as explained below:

  • If a notification email is listed as sent, that means it was forwarded to the outgoing Mail server and sent to the recipient's email address. It may have been successfully delivered or it may have bounced for some reason, such as an invalid email address.
  • If the notification is listed as a failed attempt, this means that Archer was not able to forward it to the outgoing Mail server, perhaps because of a problem with network connectivity or with the Mail server itself.

Note: The above is true for any Notification types.
